My b2evolution Version: 1.10.x

When creating or editing an entry, the following error occurs:

* Parser error: DOCTYPE not finished near <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.d
* Parser error: DOCTYPE not finished near <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.d

I edited _htmlchecker.xhtml-lat1.ent to remove the comments at the beginning of the file (they were being included in earlier error messages) but cannot find a way to fix this problem. The problem appeared after I upgraded to 1.10 from 0.9.

Do you still use an older skin or a fresh skin that came with the 1.10 package? Set the skin in backoffice -> Blog Settings -> [Your Blog] -> Skin.
Do not use the 0.9 skins in the 1.10 blog.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion.

No skins from 0.9 are being used. This is a completely new install, except for the MySQL database which was upgraded to the newer version. The old 0.9 directory was moved to a new name.

I can change skins but when I try to add a new post or to edit an existing one I get the same error message. It looks like I'm going to have to go back to 0.9. Could the problem be in going directly to 1.10 without doing the other upgrades?

Try the memory setting, in ../blogs/conf/_advanced.conf from line 43 (or so) onward it reads what to do.
In the forum, if you search, you will find a few others with startup problems, but there was none that didn't get 1.10 working after an upgrade from 0.9
