how to put adsense ads on the left and words on the right?

im tring to do this, but am not sure how, im figuring that its some sort of invisible table the adsense ads is in.

many many people that have ads have it in this form, but i cant seem to figure out how theyve done it.

but how do i write html in a post?
ive tried writing <table>, and nothing(actually an error...is there some plugin to enable html on posts?
