My b2evolution Version: 2.x

I want to be able to use the same skin in a "two blogs" blog, but in each blog I want a different image as header.
Is it possible to copy a skin and give it another name? Will it work that way or do you have to change other stuff inside the skins files?

It's exactly like you describe it. Simply copy in another folder like /skin1/ and /skin2/ does the trick.

Good luck

You can do that as simply as you described. Just give it a new name and change the bits you want to change, upload it, then install it from your Global settings -> Skins subtab.

Also if your header image is done as a CSS background then you can enable blog specific CSS and simply change the background image via a blog-specific style sheet. This is what I do with 4 images for the evopress skin. Or maybe 5. No: it's 4. One "hard coded" into the skin's style sheet and the other three as blog-specific changes.

Also if your image is an image in the html sense of the word then I think you can use the logo widget but I've no experience with that one so I could be wrong.

Thanks both for your answers, renaming the skin is the easiest way, but I might try EdB's way so I can learn more about every aspect of b2evolution.

Thanks again!

Alternatively you might be able to use the same skin for both blogs and replace the image with CSS using a custom css file that you put in the blog's media folder.

Alternatively again, you might be able to use the logo widget to diplay different images in different blog headers.

When only an image changes it is easier to maintain only 1 skin.

I'm adding on to this post, because I think its in the same direction as my question...

b2evolution Version: 2.4.0-rc2

Semi-Short Story:

I want to publish my ONE blog (only have one) in my spanish website, and in the english version of my website (www.mysite.com/ and www.mysite.com/english/). Currently, the homepage has the blog incorporated, but theres also a stub of it (exact copy) on mysite.com/noticias

Now i want to duplicate the whole thing, again using the same ONE blog, for my English version: mysite.com/english.php and mysite.com/news (or if its easier, mysite.com/english/news ...thats still to be decided).

Do i create a copy of "mysitesskin" and rename it (mentioned above) or do i need to create a stub in order to show the same content? If so, can i edit the header and navigation (english translations) for the stub file?

Background

I managed to remake a custom skin, essentially "inserting it" into the "maincontent" div of my website (it was a long weekend, but im thrilled with how it came out- thanks b2e!). So above the maincontent *blog* is the top navigation list, and on the left, the main nav list. All of these are in Spanish, including my header graphic (not part of the blog, rather written in to the code juuust before the <insert blog> php starts. Of course, now, i want all that surrounding stuff to be in English...

Maybe im just confusing myself between skin copies and stub files... but i can't see how in the Dashboard I can select my ONLY blog and give it 2 mutually-exclusive skins.

Any help is reeeally appreciated!

Go b2e!

Actually not really

Yup, you can't do that. A blog has a skin, where the skin is (basically) structuring the content and styling it for display. A blog can have (or not) a single stub file that (again basically) gives you a bit more control over some aspects of the blog.

I'm no expert on it, but I think what you need to do is have two blogs and post in Spanish in one of them and English in the other. You could probably get away with only one blog by using categories to identify the language, but by using two blogs those who read Spanish can subscribe to your Spanish blog feed and likewise for your English reading visitors.

FPlanque:

The logo Alternative did not work in my case.
What I wanted was to replace the existing Header Image so I tried the Image/Logo Widget but it placed the new header image overlapping the menu bar and about 10 px off from the Header Container's left border.
I guess that the Logo Widget is very useful if you don't have a Header Background Image and if the Logo is a logo, meaning an image with a shorter size than the header image.
I didn't try EdB's way but instead renamed the skin and changed the header image. That was easy.
I'll try EdB's way to see which is the easiest way, but 'till now, renaming the skin is what works best (for me).

ksherwi:

What I'm doing is having two blogs under http://www.guillermocasanova.net, one is Guillermo Casanova V 2.0 :D and the other is http://www.spEnglish.info
The main blog is http://www.guillermocasanova.net while http://www.spEnglish.info is really http://www.guillermocasanova.net/index.php/speng but additionally I bought a domain spenglish.info that I permanently redirect to http://www.guillermocasanova.net/index.php/speng
It's not a beautiful way of doing it, I wish I knew a way of renaming the http://www.guillermocasanova.net/index.php/speng to simply http://www.spEnglish.info but since I don't, this works for me.

If you want, you can have a look at them and you will see that both have the same skin but different headers; that I managed renaming the skins as explained in the above reply.
I've also used Widgets to have excerpts of each blog in the other blog. My only regret is those excerpts don't include thumbnails of images... but that's another issue.

thanks for the replies. I realized this question is woven in with the "How do we want to handle multilingual blogs?" Sticky...

After thinking about it for a while, and getting the OK from by boss, i'm going to create another blog, copy the custom skin and make some adjustments (which will let me show the translated links and title graphic). The English speakers who visit my site will be a much narrower audience, so there wont be as much news for me to post there, but what will be published will be interesting especially for them. And really, logging in to two separate dashboards to post wont be too much of a hassle, especially since the english site will have about half the posts...

I haven't done it yet, but I'm assuming there wont be a problem in re-installing the blog to my root/en/ directory (root/en/index.php and a stub for it at /en/news/index.php). The Spanish version is at root/index.php. Fingers crossed!
