At some point in time on my main blog I managed to turn on the text that goes next to all the icons. I can't for the life of me figure out how to turn it off so it's just text again.
I am not sure but I think this might be something to do with the 'Action word display' item in your user profile. I think the default is 3. Might be worth checking what value you have in this field.
