[2.x] Enabling links in comments

My b2evolution Version: 2.x

I tried searching for this topic, and the only post I was able to find was five years old and seems to be a bit out of date.

I'm trying to enable hyperlinks in comments on my blog, but have yet to find a way to do so. I've poked around in _formatting.php and attempted to add <a> to the approved comment tags, but I'm still unable to use the HTML in comments.

Any suggestions?

Yes, but it pretty much depends on exactly what version you are using. If 246/247 is correct then try editing /inc/xhtml_validator/_xhtml_dtd.inc.php and looking for a line that is commented out and has a warning saying you'll get lots of spam (or something like that). Sorta like 

// 'a' => $C_E_a_content, // Allowing this will call for a whole lot of comment spam!!!

Uncomment it and as if by magic the a tag will be an allowable gizmo.
