My b2evolution Version: 2.x

Over the past week or so, all our blogs on the b2evo system have shown a large spike in traffic from "unknown" sources, specifically listed as "BLP_bbot/0.1" in the traffic log.

A few quick Google searches have uncovered basically no information on this. Does anyone have any idea what this is or whether it should be a concern? Everything seems to be running normally and I haven't noticed any problems or other anomalies with the blogs, but this traffic spike is significant. It's doubling (or more) the traffic the blogs normally get.

if it's not in Google it doesn't exist :)

But if you're concerned this bot is consuming too much of your hard-earned bandwidth, first option is to block it via your /robots.txt:

User-agent: BLP_bbot/1.0
Disallow: /

OF course, if this is a truly bad-behaved bot, then it will ignore robots.txt. After that, you can try another solution.

So far it's not enough to worry about, but figured someone here might have some details about it and whether it was worth blocking. Thanks for the info!

You could also try to use "BLP_bbot" without the version number in your robots.txt.
