My b2evolution Version: Not Entered

Seeking help for a newb to b2evolution:

Trying to figure out how to:

1. Have automated registration of users via
web page then email validation.
2. unregistered users can only view selected
public forums. No posting.
3. Many want admin review of new users before
confirmation E-mail sent along with a few
custom form fields to fill out during initial
registration.

Have looked through much documentation and FAQS, but these seem for wide open systems.

I am a PHP programmer and have been looking through default.php to get some
ideas of writing a front page of my own, but would GREATLY prefer to use existing software instead of writing everything I want.

New to b2eveolution... have been trying a number of similar products, but b2evolution seems to be the best for me if I get over the afore mentioned hurtles. I have a history of posting useful updates and documentation changes to freeware software.
