Hi,

My b2evolution forum is working well (http://www.jan-jansen.be), but now I want to post from time to time a posting to be seen by registered and logged in members only.

I have tried a lot, but still it doesn't work. I member (as basic user) who logged in, can still not see the posting (marked as protected, members only)

This is what I did :

- writing a post, and selected protected (only members)
- the people who registered are in status members basic users

Who can explain me howto do this ?

Cheers, Moonlight

One possiblity is that you have www.jan-jansen.be set as your baseurl in /conf/_config.php, but you're accessing your page with jan-jansen.be (no www.) The way that b2evolution tells if you're logged in is a cookie, which is set to the domain you entered as your baseurl. If you get to the site by another address (without the www) then the cookie won't work and you'll see the same thing as non-members.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, but I still don't get it. Ooops.

I checked the base URL :

$baseurl = 'http://www.jan-jansen.be'; // IMPORTANT: NO ENDING SLASH !!!

It's still not clear to me.

Is it correct that when writing a posting I select 'protected' (for post to be viewed by members only) ? Afterwards, I see that this posting is in the status 'Publish me', seems strange to me, since I prefer to have this specific posting available to members only. If I click on Publish, it would become available to everybody it seems, ....

Yes, protected is the status you want to use.

Go to http://www.jan-jansen.be/admin/ and log in. Then go to http://www.jan-jansen.be (use that exact address) and see if you can see the protected post.

If you can't, then look down in the sidebar at the section called 'Misc' If it shows 'login' and 'register,' then we know that the b2evolution front end is not seeing that you're logged in.

=> I cannot see the protected post when I log in as a normal member (I created a basic user account for this, username testing, passwd testing).

Fyi, when I login as administrator I can see of course everything, including my protected posting. In this real life example, the protected posting becomes visible in the 'Windows' section which now contains 2 iso 1 posting.

=> I can see (as normal logged in user) in 'Misc' the 'admin', 'profile' and 'logout' sections. But still the 'protected' posting isn't visible.

Please note, my remark on previous post, that (as an administrator) after writing a post and marking it as 'protected (members only)', I still see the 'Publish now' button (which seems strange to me), since it should be published to members only.

'Publish Now' is normal. That's if you want to publicly publish a post. I tested this on my blog and it does the same thing.

I logged in with testing, testing but I have a couple of questions. Is user testing listed as a member of your blog (in the blogs tab > permissions)? And what is the post that you made with status protected? I need to know so I can tell when it's visible.

Ok, thanks for this clarification. This means I was at least following the correct procedure.

Thanks a lot for your time to help me clarifying this issue.

You remark about 'blogs tab > permissions', gave me the necessary tip ! In fact I first didn't find the tab since my b2evo is in Dutch ;-).

But indeed, it seems that all the new registered users are by default NOT a member. I guess that this means that the administrator (myself in this case) has to give each registered user the permission manually to become (after registration) a real member. In fact this is GOOD, but you have to know it.

When you login as testing / testing you will see an additional post called :
Windows Genuine Advantage (Part 2), which is a members only post.

When you confirm too, that it works, I will delete the 'testing' user.

Thanks a lot !!!!!
