Hey, im implementing a new home site for myself in the next few weeks. i wanted to use b2e as the home page/news page. it wouldnt work "out of the box" for my current server which is win 2k server, apache2, php5, mysql5 and b2e 0.9.1 dawn. im also using the mysqli php dll, not the standard mysql one. Heres how i set it up as well as the updated _class_db.php file.
• unzipped blog to serverroot/blogs

  • used mysql administrator to create a new user account for mysql as well as a new blank db for b2e.

  • gave new user full rights to the new db

  • edited _class_db.php to use the new mysqli functionality

  • gave full access to all files in blogs/ folder. i use win2k server so it was just a matter of right clicking the folder. going to security tab, selecting the user account setup to work with apache and giving it full rights.

  • headed over to www.my.site/blogs/install via web browser.

  • enter the sql db information and fill out the rest of the fields

  • at this point its the install/update/delete db screen. choose install.

  • it should be all ok.

  • start blogging

  • [/list:u]
    that wasnt quite how i did it as i first tested it out of the box but i knew it would be using the old mysql dll and would require work. it was pretty simple to update as its mostly just renaming all functions starting with mysql with mysqli. The other part is making sure that all the functions use the db link in the new fashion. some just need the order of the vars swapping round so myfunction($sometextdata, $mysqllink) becomes myfunction($mysqllink, $sometextdata). in a few places it just had to be added as the old ones didnt require a db link at all.

    Heres the updated file, it goes in blogs/b2evocore:

    i edited out the function bit at the top because it spews a php error when you try and redefine a function. could work around this but i didnt see the need for my usage, selfish me :¬) i havent fully tested it out as im not starting the main bulk of work at the moment. i could login, view and use the admin panel and change some config data. didnt try anything else. im going to reset the file permissions when it goes live so its more narrowed down. theres a list of permissions for folders in the docs so i'll just match that.

    edit: fixed a tiny bug i introduced in the DB() function. it only ever worked if your db was called b2evolution. if you picked a new name it was never passed in. just meant changing 'b2evolution' to $dbname

    Hi again, today I was setting up a new blog for someone and decided to use the latest release download of b2evolution which at this time is 1.9.3 "Rainforest". It had a totally different folder and file structure than the previous 0.9.1 "Dawn" version so I had to make the mysqli changes again. I'm running MySQL 5.0.27 and PHP 5.2.0.

    All the changes are contained in a single file located at /inc/_misc/_db.class.php and the updated version is attached to this post.

    The main changes are similar to the last mysqli update I made i.e. replaced a bunch of mysqls with mysqlis and changed the syntax slightly to match the updated functions. Again; I commented out the function at the top starting with:

    if( ! function_exists( 'mysql_real_escape_string' ) )

    My logic here was that if you where going to be using the mysqli functions then you would be using mySQL 5 or greater which we already know does have it mysqli_real_escape_string function so there is no need to test for it.

    The only thing that might cause anyone hiccups is this new addition on line 678 (for me):

    if( is_resource($this->result) ) { ... }

    There is a comment there which points to this thread and says that the new if statement is to prevent fatal errors. I had to comment it out as it kept returning false with the mysqli result. This caused problems from the beginning of the install procedure where it couldn't even do a simple "SELECT VERSION()" query. Commenting it out sorted that out.

    After making all the changes I was able to do a fresh install with no problems. I don't foresee any problems with the changes as I had none last time round with the "Dawn" release and I've still got a few blogs running with that version.
