Is there a way to have authorizez users post directly from the main blog page instead of having them go into the admin section and then to the write tab?

I still have the sidebar comment about the first post, etc.. on my blog.
Also some of the links aren't working, and there's nowhere for new members to sign up.
what do I need to do to fix this?
I really appreciate the help.

can visitors register ?
You first need to set that parameter.
You'll find that setting in the tab 'App settings'

At the bottom of the sidebar in the Misc section there is a link to "login..." and one to "register...". If you are logged in you won't see these. Instead you'll see links to log out and view/edit your profile.

Now it's working.
I'm pretty sure it's been covered but since I can't find it quickly I'll run through it for you.
First, not giving new users any permission to do anything is a security thing. If someone can register and start posting you'll have every porn site and it's pill pushing cousin signing up. Blech.
But you've got a real user, so you want to hook them up. What group do you want this blogger in? Let's just say the bloggers group okay? Cool - go to your users & groups tab and click on the new user and put them in that group. BTW it gets really complicated how it all works, and I'm playing in the newest sandbox so I might be getting my signals crossed here, but the basics are the same.
Which blog do you want them to have permission to post in? Go to your blogs tab and select that blog, then select the 'user permissions' sub-tab. You get a table with a bunch of checkboxes, so first make them a member of the blog by checking that box. Now slide your mouse across the page ticking off boxes for whatever permissions you want to give them. If you give them all the perms they can pretty much do anything, so be a bit careful. Clearly you'll want them to post published and drafts, but do you really want them to be able to edit the blog properties?
Oh and I think level 5 is where they will need to be if you want them to be allowed to upload images. I'm not sure though because, as I said, I don't run a .9 generation installation anymore.
Hey here's an idea that'll help you understand what your bloggers will get to do: make up a user that you get to be using a different browser. I prefer Firefox, so I am logged in as admin with that browser. I then opened IE and registered with that browser so me-as-admin could tweak different settings to see how it affected me-as-blogger.
Anyway all you have to do is put the blogger in the group and make them be the level you want them to be, then go to the blog(s) you want them to be able to post in and make them members. Sorta simple, but doing the "there's two of me" thing will go a long way down the self discovery path.
Oh and you should upgrade! 0.9.0.12 wasn't bad, but 0.9.1 is way better! The biggest difference is how the newer version kicks butt on the spammers who will begin attacking you any day now. Your skin will be able to survive the upgrade process, so don't sweat that aspect.
