I went to dig (but not so deep) into the forum with the problem I face when installing b2evolution and I discover 2 users who are lucky enough, I guess to the same or maybe not almost the same problem as I have encounter.

http://forums.b2evolution.net/viewtopic.php?t=6524

The problem (installation is done on webserver, not local server as in your own home private server for demo/ test/ whatever):
I hit the install button for b2evolution on my webhost which then did the auto installed for b2evolution from the server itself. Installation went fine. mysql db was created automatically too. Did a check on the config.php, all infos on 'what's the name of the sql db, host, user' fits in correctly. So it was auto installed and auto generated.

Then when I hit the http://www.mywebsite.com/b2evolution/ , it went to the initial default page. Try to log in but can't seem to past thru coz I wasn't aware of the admin name and password.

SO WHERE WAS MY ADMIN NAME AND PASSWORD?

Note:
Everything was AUTO-CREATED AND AUTO GENERATED until that I didn't have the chance to get to know the admin name and password. And there's no way I missed that critical part since that I have installed, delete and reinstall again just to get thru and get to see that final step. In the end, I realised AUTO-CREATED/ GENERATED stuff may be good to some point and no good when it come to here.

Solution:
From the brief solution given in this thread http://forums.b2evolution.net/viewtopic.php?t=5854, I went back to mysql db that created AUTOMATICALLY and went in to search for the password. Moments later, got it but I'm not tech savvy with those LOOONNNNGGGG encoded codes. Need reader to decode I guess. Heck...

But wait, remember that on the login page there is a feature...the password retrieval... 'Lost password?'. Yeah.... at the mysql db, my admin email was luckily wasn't ENCODED... so yeah.... I use that Lost Password feature, went to the email account I have specified for Admin and whooossshhh.... there I have it. Login into admin page a success.

Long story....but worth the typing out of 3 freaking hr of frustration on 'NOW, WHERE THE HELL I HAVE GONE WRONG HERE?'.

To the guys who did the online help file
Guys who did the online help should update the online help on this problem for those users with webservers that can AUTO-INSTALL, AUTO GENERATE the config.php crucial data and then AUTO-SKIPPED the final part where it should reveal the admin name (in this case, it was 'admin') and the random password. Coz I search on online help and it didn't mention anything on this.

Peace, no war... sorry if this problem was already addressed before and solution was already given but just to vent out from my '1am to 4am' sheer frustration of installation.... Should have done the noble escape route earlier by reading this thread and get the hint from there: http://forums.b2evolution.net/viewtopic.php?t=5854

Now to sleep first and I will configure this whole thing the 1st thing I wake later on.... Cheers!

What auto-installer did you use? I always install using fantastico and it has me fill in a couple of fields before it does it's thing. Admin's name and password, and my email address.

After that I log in and change the password to what I like, download the conf/_config.php file, delete everything cuz it's always an older version, install whatever version I feel like playing with (complete with appropriate info from conf/_config.php of course), then tell mypath/install/ to do an upgrade.

Who cares right? I'm curious what auto-installer isn't giving you an opportunity to set or see the password that will let you log in to your back office.

Hello all,
I just installed b2e using fantastico as EdB stated with no problems...well no technical issues anyway.
My problem is, because I used the auto install and auto configure it replaced my existing html page on my website. (not a biggie cause is was only one logo splash page)
So now when you go to http://www.zibhdi.com it goes straight to the blog and you don't even see my splash page.

I'm assuming my options are to 1. remove b2e from the server and start over. (but I wouldn't know exactly what to do differently to avoid this if I did)
2. Go in and rename the appropriate files. (but which files and what would I rename them?)
3. Build the whole site from b2e. (really not feeling this option)

Keep in mind I'm trying to create a site with static html pages that link to the blog, forums, etc.
Oh and I'm as green as new money. ;)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Or you could make sure your static page is called index.php and rename sample.htaccess to plain old .htaccess

There's a line in there which sets the priority of pages to load. You'll see something like index.php index.html and a bunch of others. Just put them in the order you want them to be prioritised.

Thanks for your 4th option but I went with option #1. In the field where it asked for a subdomain name I left it blank the first time so it put everything in at the root level. I typed in "blog" for the subdomain and the problem was fixed.

I will, however study your suggested method because I think it would be a good learning exercise.

Thanks again.
