the spam is killling me - hopefully the next release will be able to stop more of it - so when will it be released approximately (+ - 1 month)?

You will see a lot of improvement what spam is concerned.

For non production sites (or sites where you are the only who is posting) you can allready try out 1.6 alfa. There are still a little tiny bugs, so don't use it yet for big important blogs if you want a flauwless system.
