Hi

I've done my first installation. At the point where I'm to log on as admin I get an error saying "You are not authorized to view this page". Is this authorization issues on OS level or a problem with my cookies? I have cookies enabled and the admin folder has 755 permissions.

Thanks

Petri

This doesn't sound good :( Tell us a bit more, please. Like what browser you use and what version of b2evolution you've installed and (ideally) show us a link so's we can maybe figure something out you didn't think of mentioning. Also what type of server you're on might be important. Some of the smart people around here dig on that stuff. Personally all I know is "I'm on the server I pay to be on".

Anyway a bit more info will be required to help you out of this situation.

I'm using IE6, and installed b2e 0.9.1b and the installation is at http://jacobandconnor.awardspace.com/blog. When you say what type of server do you mean OS of the host? It is some sort of linux distro as far as I know, but more than that I don't know.

Let me know if there is anything else.

Okay so here's a neato idea that I should've thought of a few minutes ago, but it sort of depends on how you did your installation. If you used an auto-installer it'll be harder, but it's all the same so let's just replace all the files that might be giving you a hard time.

Grab a fresh copy of the zipped up version you're running and unzip it on your computer. Now connect to your server (via an FTP client I guess) and delete everything in your 'admin' and 'b2evocore' folders. Now upload the freshly unzipped stuff from your freshly downloaded zip. See if that helps.

The idea here is that maybe you got one file that went bad in some weird way. By deleting the replacing those two folders you stand a high chance of recovering from this.

It's the end of my day so I'll be passing out soon. If this doesn't help and no one else has any ideas send me a PM if you're okay with giving me your login ID and password and I'll see what I can do when I wake up.

I've gone one step further and did an entire installation from scratch (deleted all files from host, dropped all tables on db, and then went through the entire process again. Exact same result. :'( Link to the site now is http://jacobandconnor.awardspace.com/blogs/...

Something similar does happen to me too.
I've installed b2evolution from scratch successfully, the thing I alter during the installation is as follows:
$baseurl :I changed the default url to http://blog.excellenttry.com(I'm sure this subdomain is active) whick seems not to work.

On the last step of installation,I was told to log in as admin with the passwords it offered,so I clicked but it appeared unavailable.
I don't know what to do with the problem.May someone help me out?
PS:All b2evolution files reside in blog.excellenttry.com/b2evolution
and my DB works well. There is nothing wrong with it.

TomCulver :
You've uploaded your files to <domain>/b2evolution/ what you need to do is move those files up one level (ie, upload the files within /b2evolution/ folder to <domain> ).

Petri14 :
I get the login screen if I go to <domain>/admin do you get a different error (or is it only after you've attempted to login?)

petri14: I'd start talking to your host about this. Something they've got set up is stopping the back office from loading completely. I used your admin password to try to log in and, as you probably expected, got the 403 error. It is a 403 page generated by your host though - not b2evolution and not a generic error. At http://jacobandconnor.awardspace.com/blogs/index.php?blog=2 I can see your blog, and after I tried to log in I clicked the admin link. b2evolution TRIED to go to the proper page in the back office - not the login screen - which told me the cookie got set. I checked and it did, so attempting to log in got me almost all the way there. Then, instead of the proper page, I got your host's 403 page.

Gotta be something your host is doing. Maybe something in their server configuration? Maybe some sort of 'protection' they've got in place? I don't know, but I'd be talking with them about this problem.

Firstly thanks for your message.
And I do as what you refer above, after I uploaded my files to <domain>, I open the url:http://blog.excellenttry.com,it appears to be http://blog.excellenttry.com/index.html with the title "b2evo package: Start page",which isn't the index that I expect...
It's lucky that I can log in as admin,so I write some posts ,when I want to browse these posts,it is a failure to open the url:http://blog.excellenttry.com/index.php?blog=2
how can I solve this problem, which puzzles me a lot.......
Tom.

¥åßßå: I get the login screen as well, but after I put in the username / password I get the error.

EdB: Thanks for the reply, will be taking it up with my host.

yay 0 for 2 ..... damn one more and I strike out :p

TomCulver:
Sorry, I gave you duff information, you need to upload the contents of b2evolution/blogs/ to <domain>.

Petri14:
Something you might like to try, rename your admin folder to something else, then open /conf/_advanced.php and update the line that looks something like this to reflect the new folder name :-
$admin_subdir = 'admin'; // Subdirectory relative to base

Then try logging in and see what happens

Yes,just as what you said,I do upload the contents of b2evolution/blogs/ to <domain>.but it still doesn't work.
I can open the url:http://blog.excellenttry.com/default.php,while http://blog.excellenttry.com/blogs/index.php is unavailable.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting ')' in /usr/home/users/c0/tomculver/www/blog.excellenttry.com/skins/custom/_main.php on line 238
Can you tell me how to solve this problem.
Thanks@..:))

Can you post the code for your _main.php around that area?

tomculver have you tried a complete re-installation? I mean all the way back to a fresh copy of the zip file from the downloads page. Delete the stuff on your server and upload new files from a new copy of the version you're running and see what you get. Normally when I suggest this I point to the admin and b2evocore folders as prime suspects, but given your error I'd be after the skins folder (including all folders in the skins folder).

Basically the only pages that aren't working are the ones that need to use the custom skin. Thus I'd be looking to absolutely and completely replace the skins folder, and not with another version of what you've got on your local PC.

Hm! It's something about your custom skin so dig on replacing IT first and foremost. http://blog.excellenttry.com/index.php?blog=1&skin=guadeloupe shows your blog!
