I'm using 1.8.2 w/ the "plain" skin. Whenever I make edits in the main.php template to change my sidebar, the changes don't show up. For example, I added html code to my sidebar and when I go to my main page...nothing. Now if I switch to another skin (I switched to "custom") it magically appears. Why is this happening, and is there something I can do so my edits appear when using the "plain" skin?

May sound like a stupid question but you are editing;
/blogs/skins/plain/_main.php
and not
/blogs/skins/custom/_main.php
And is it only the _main.php file you are editing or other files as well?
What you could also is stick a lot of asdasdasd everywhere to discover which changes are being displayed and which ones arn't. Or even, stick in a php script with incorrect syntax or a die('test'); to make sure you are editing the correct file.
