I went through my 4.1.4 site, which was fully operational.

I copied the files from b2evolution-4.1.4-to-4.1.5b and everything was fine. The admin showed that I was running 4.1.5.
I copied the files from b2evolution-4.1.5-to-4.1.6 and everything was fine. The admin showed that I was running 4.1.6.
I copied the files from b2evolution-4.1.6-to-4.1.7 and everything was fine. The admin showed that I was running 4.1.7.

I copied the files from b2evolution-5.0.4-to-5.0.5 and everything is blank. No pages, no nothing. I tried the /install/index.html just to see that I was actually accessing the correct directory and it gave me the instruction to go to index.php... I clicked it and it was a blank page.

So what was a fully operational http://www.championshipsubdivisionnews.com/log/index.php?blog=2 is now a blank site.

What did I do wrong and how can I get it to work?

TIA!!

I created another directory and reinstalled 4.1.4. Everything is back to where it was before my ill-fated upgrade attempt. I would like to try to upgrade again but I need to know what I did wrong the first time.

I think it has something to do with upgrading the database but I don't know. Any ideas?

TIA!

You cannot jump from 4.1.7 to 5.0.4 without a proper upgrade.

Forget all your incremental file changes and upload all files from the latest release, then run the install script (which *will* be there if you copy all files).
