Hi b2evolution,
After moderate searching I have decided to try b2evolution to set up a simple `about me`, successful amateur athlete web site/blog to showcase sponsors and add the odd news tidbits and maybe a calendar so the people will know when I am racing, add pics etc. I hope b2 is the right choice for this.

I know just enough to be dangerous with various multi media programs (in fact I work in animation, 3D and hand drawn) such as Photoshop, Premiere, Maya, TV Paint, Lightroom etc. Some years back I even made a website for a friend with Dreamweaver I think it was. I use Core and Cute for FTP file transfer.

Anyway I have minimal to no programming experience but I am still hopeful I can get something up and running with b2.

My first question is.....can I design or create the blog first, locally, on my computer and THEN upload it to the web server/host? I am reading here that the one of the first steps is to have the web host established before beginning with b2. Does that mean the site can only be `created` within the web page? I hope you guys know what i mean.

Thanks!

Chris

Hi @chdoyle,

Welcome to this community.

Regarding your questions, it will be dead simple if you start your blog directly on the web host and using the domain that will become in permanent. Of course, this is not a written in stone rule, so you can also do your own tests in a local computer and then migrate to the final server, but you will need to perform a couple of extra steps, before and after, that may add complexity to the process (before: prepare local environment - after: export the database, change path and other parameters in the configuration file, etc.).

No matter which option do you finally take, the online manual is the best place to start with, especially this section: http://b2evolution.net/man/new-install/. Also, do not hesitate to make questions here in the forums, we'll be glad to help you with your new site.

Regards!
